If Trump is voted president the country will not be destroyed or disappear. Millions will suffer, but millions of others will be enriched. The people voted Trump president once and certainly could again. Showing what the people want. I don't understand the Trump fad, but I have learned to live as a minority in my country for a long time. The people obviously want something I do not. Even if Trump loses, this country has become way to conservative for me. The Constitution gives us a guide as to what kind of government we should have. As we have learned the Constitution is flawed, but I would not want to try to rewight the Constitution with the kind of leaders we have now. So we keep limping along.
Just a reminder. in 2016 and 2020 the people, as in a majority of voters, supported Trump's opponent. The antiquated electoral system is a poison pill against democracy. Our elections will always be rigged in favor of minority rule because of it.
ReplyDeleteBut we all know a minority WILL block any attempt to amend this tragic flaw in our Constitution.
The country may survive, but democracy will not. Trump's election denial and coup, the EC, the anti-democratic Senate, and the shamelessly corrupt red hats on the Supreme Court have undermined democracy to the point it is practically on its death bed. Trump will assure its demise.
We have had to live with the EC for over 250 years. Yes, I would be for changing it, but that takes a Constitutional amendment, a hard achievement. I think you will find people more and more siding against Trump, especially when it comes to election results.
DeleteDemocracy will survive. Did democracy die when FDR packed the government and the courts with liberals? Of course, he fundamentally changed government. At the time people loved him, they voted him for president 4 times. But don't forget that's when we made a law limiting anyone being elected president more than twice.
I understand your observations, I do not see it so severe.

DeleteSam, I find it interesting that you think the country has become way too conservative, sir. In my lifetime I have seen it slowly and steadily drift to the liberal side of the spectrum. In the last dozen years I have seen it lurch far to the left rather suddenly. Abortion, as Bill Clinton once said, should be "safe, legal, and rare". Now the main talking point of the DNC last week was where abortion should be celebrated, on-demand, and without limitations. This whole transgender nonsense is completely asinine, when men want to compete against and end up hurting women. I remember not too long ago when gay people only wanted the the right to love who they loved. Now they demand that we celebrate their lifestyle, no matter how perverse they may become or we are branded as homophobes. Police are racist and should be de-funded, while crime runs rampant and protestors destroy our cities. Our borders should be wide open to anyone that wants to come in without being vetted. This is not the pendulum swinging towards conservativism, my friend. This is the leftist coup taking over. When this country falls to the woke and socialist constructs of the leftists in the nation, there will not be a free country left for which I can escape to in peace and freedom and to simply be left alone to live my life. I remember when there were good Democrats in office, and I even voted for a few and respected many of them. I'm afraid I cannot say that any more. Certainly not regarding the senile and corrupt occupant of the White House and his DEI-pick VP who was anointed without a vote of the people to take over for him once it was obvious he would not win. So much for saving Democracy. Anyway, I do appreciate your points of view, Sam. Thanks for allowing me to rant, sir.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your observations, but not to the ferocity you do. We have had mainly Republican presidents in the decades you cite. Our debts have gone from 5 trillion to 30 trillion under those Republican presidents. The Republicans (Mcconnell) have packed the courts with conservatives, especially the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has changed many laws that have been on the books for decades including abortion. There has been an obvious conservative slant - change.
ReplyDeleteThe WOKE have not won. I don't agree with WOKE any more than I agree with MAGA. When is this country going to pull itself out of this polarity.
You are ALWAYS welcome to rant here. I enjoy it.
